FRIENDS AND SPONSORS

BRUCE VERCHERE - BC Diabetes Research Network

Dr. Verchere is a highly accomplished researcher and Professor in the Departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Surgery. He is a prominent member of both the UBC and BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR) communities.

As head of the Canucks for Kids Fund (CFKF) Diabetes Research Laboratories since its creation in 2002, Dr. Verchere has established BC Children’s as a national leader in the field of pediatric diabetes research. During his time in this role he has built a multi-disciplinary team of over 100 world-class researchers, trainees and staff, secured several major infrastructure grants, and developed an engaged provincial network to further research into understanding the causes of type 1 and type 2 diabetes and improving treatments.  Throughout this time, Bruce has continued to pursue his own leading-edge research on the functioning of insulin-producing beta cells and how their dysfunction or failure contributes to type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

We are  thrilled to have Dr. Verchere as a resource for our cast to help us understand Type 1 Diabetes and how to properly represent it on stage. He has also generously given his time and introduced us to the diabetes community including those who struggle with the disease as well as the tenacious medical community that continues to research and fight to find a cure.

ROCHELLE ELISE PHOTOGRAPHY - Promotional photos

Rochelle Elise Pianalto has been rated one of Vancouver's top family photographers. She has a natural light in home studio located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.  She photographs on location in many indoor and outdoor settings around the lower mainland and Fraser Valley - specializing in maternity, newborn, baby, child, and family portrait photography. In 2012, Rochelle began full time work as a child and family photographer. Prior to this, she worked part time as a photographer, while running a performing Arts School, producing many children and teen musicals. She has found many similarities between the art of theatre production and photography. And yes, if you peaked in on one of her photo sessions you will hear her freely singing away to your young children.

Rochelle is also sister to cast member and producer Lalainia Lindbjerg. Lalainia is thrilled and indebted to her sister Rochelle for the stunning photos she created of the Steel Magnolias cast and for continually inspiring her to be the artist and the person that she, her big sister, has always seen inside.
